If you haven't spent an entire year's wages at Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm and Universal Studios, you may have some left over for outlet shopping. Here are a couple of places to spend what's left.

Located in the City of Commerce, 9 miles north of Los Angeles on Highway 5.

Without such high-end anchors as Barneys New York Outlet, this ancient outlet still offers respectable discounts on everyday labels. The bargains can vary depending on the day. The Ann Taylor Factory Outlet and the well-stocked Van Heusen men's store offer deep discounts, but Benetton, Max Studio and BCBG average about 20 percent off retail prices. For rock-bottom bargains, try Old Navy--$3 shirts, $10 jeans and baby clothes as cheap as 99 cents---or the end-of-season "sidewalk" sales.

Save Money
Look for coupon books during regular center hours at L'eggs, Hanes, Bali, Suite 142 or online.

Save Time
Can't figure out what to get your favorite picky bargain hunter? Gift certificates are available from the Citadel Management Office and can be redeemed at any of the outlets in the center.

Inventory can be hit-and-miss. Ann Taylor Loft, BR and BCBG stock plenty of capri pants, stretchy T-shirts, tailored suits and other current styles at prices reduced more than 40 percent. The Maidenform outlet carries department store bras marked down as much as 60 percent. The Nike, Tommy Hilfiger and Polo Jeans outlets have large inventories of denim, sportswear and shoes also marked down to half of current retail prices. But be forewarned: Barneys can be disappointing, especially if it's in between deliveries from the mother ship.

Take I-10 East and exit at Fields Road. Make a left and turn right on Seminole Drive.

Chances of finding good merchandise in Desert Hills' 120 stores are so-so. Don't get too excited about Gucci and Versace--inventory is often limited to size 4 boots and other discards. But Burberry stocks a decent collection of timeless trenches (which still start at $400, even when discounted), and Space carries classic nylon Prada bags priced below retail. Stylish gals can find plenty of boot-cut pants and off-the-shoulder tops for under $50 at Laundry, BCBG and Max Studio. Teens make a beeline for Esprit's incredible sales (one-third off everything in the store). By late afternoon, shelves at A/X Armani Exchange are thoroughly ravaged.

The Off 5th-Saks Fifth Avenue outlet alone is worth the drive. Here, Calvin Klein coats, Max Studio separates and Anne Klein suits can be found for 50 to 70 percent off and shoes from Kate Spade, Prada, and Coach are also half price. Off Rodeo Dr Beverly Hills carries the labels men crave--Hugo Boss, Canali and some Armani--but prices are still steep, even with the 70 percent markdown. Try the bebe outlet for casual girlie wear (T-shirts, capris) and the Levi's and Gap outlets for discounted basics. Home-decorating divas will love the bargain-basement deals on housewares at the JCPenny outlet.
